KONG Kyoungchul is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and is director of the Augmented Human Research Center. He earned his PhD from UC Berkeley in 2009. His main area of interest throughout his career has been basic and applied wearable robot technology. He made his name known with his bronze medal in the wearable robot event at Cyblathon, the world’s first global cyborg Olympics, in 2016, and went on to win gold at the second Cyblathon in 2020. He founded Angel Robotics, where he is currently CEO, to commercialize his wearable robot technology and make it available to the general public. The company’s Angel Legs product, a wearable robot device for rehabilitation purposes, is actively used today by medical institutions in over 60 countries around the world.
